the first
a frozen sunrise
leaps between trees shocked
by the cold of reality
on a morning left behind
by a year
marked with double-time
mis-step
black heels pounding
history’s false rhythm
good evil
light dark
black white
grey pavement winding
forward
the only
right
direction

How nice to have you at the bar, long time since last time. I love this end of the year poem… the cold and the pavement only leading forward works so well for the time that’s passing.
Happy New Year

A year of boots pounding, double-time- scary stuff, well said.

I like how this develops. The shocked trees, the black heels and how forward is the only right direction. I agree. Happy New Year

It took me a long time to feel comfortable on that gray winding path. Black and white seems so much safer. Beautiful and meaningful poem, Kelly

Forward…the only right direction. Yes! I like the positive note in this.

There’s almost an urgency in this. The rhythm held throughout.

Even the frozen sunrise moves forward. Excellent message in a world of contrasts that could easily paralyze us.

I love the shape and pace of this poem, which reflects the frozen sunrise leaping between the trees, the ‘double-time mis-step’ and ‘black heels pounding / history’s false rhythm’.

Reads like a well-executed charcoal sketch!

You captured the mood so amazingly well! I could feel the powerful emotion in each image and no matter how dark or light the moment is, we must continue forward. I’m sharing this to FaceBook and I’m grateful for you wisdom!!
