the truth that morning whispers
I stand in my driveway, shivering, camera in hand, trying to capture ever-elusive birds. This is not at all the photo I was trying to record, wings too fast for my cold fingers, but there it is: morning.
I was not standing here to see the sun rise with all its pretty promises, not here to watch midnight blue change to purple and pink, and yet somehow, my camera found its way to dawn just the same.
The most beautiful things are always the ones that find you first, and all you really have to do is be there.
Morning is becoming my favorite time of day. For me, this is a huge shift, having always been a night owl, staying up well past the time that makes sense, always having a hard time letting go of another day. And even now, my bedtime is midnight, I like to be there to watch another day slip through the keyhole and become tomorrow. Which of course, in that split second, becomes today.
A clean slate to dream on, a beginning that is tangled up in the bedsheets of an end. Yesterday, today, tomorrow, all just words that melt together in the space between 12:00 and 12:00:01.
Blink, and a new day is born.
And by sunrise, the hunger sets in, the possibility, the curiosity.
The promise of anything that is everything.
Perhaps it is possible to be a night owl and a morning person all at the same time.
Perhaps I am a midnight to noon person.
There’s a moon in there, somewhere.
Whispering.

Just exquisite. I, too, was once a night owl, but now dawn draws me out to be still and feel the power of new morning with its attendant sounds and colors. I’ll wave north tomorrow, when we’re both out.

My Night Owl wanes and I resist the morning. What I am missing! I think I’m going to go find the moon.

I am naturally a night owl as well, but in recent years I have found so much comfort in the sun rising again each day. Love, love, love the post.

The morning can be a lovely time, and I know where you’re coming from in terms of being a night owl. It’s interesting how life can change us like that, isn’t it? Thanks for inadvertently capturing the beauty of morning. And I hope the next time you seek to capture the beauty of the birds, they cooperate on such a wonderful scale that you giggle out loud.

I’m an afternoon to dawn person, always really have been. Adult life has forced me to go to bed much earlier than I’d like, but I’m still a night owl at heart.
Morning light is so amazing, though. I loved this.
(And I’m currently sitting at my desk, camera at hand, waiting for some elusive cardinals to come back to my birdfeeder that I set up right outside my window. They are so skittish, these birds. But I’ve gotten a few shots. I just want *the* shot. Patience. Patience. It will happen.)

I am a night owl who enjoys mornings very much. Needless to say, it’s a difficult combo.

So can relate to this post today … I am, have always been a night owl…refusing to give up the day. But lately, morning has been beckoning me with its raw beauty. Oh my … so much to capture in a day.

Your photos are so beautiful– even the accidental ones. I am definitely a night person, but I wish I could force myself to wake up just a little earlier to appreciate the morning, too. So many times on my way to work I’ve thought, “I wish I had time to stop and take a picture of this.” One of these mornings I need to actually do it and have my camera with me. I love how the fog and sun make the fields near my house look like a little part of heaven.

I’ve thought of that too… is it possible to be both a night owl and morning person… I figure morning is whenever my eyes open and decide it is. A bit earlier in the summer months and a wee bit later in the winter. But the night owl in me is a much more dominant entity….it is so very hard to let go of the day..I often wonder why I put up such a fight in those wee hours!
